Prison Ministry - DFW GOOD News!

The Goodness Project is regularly invited to minister to people who escape our notice and attention.  Women in prison often go unseen and unheard.

Prison Ministry in San Saba, TX

Yet last month, The Goodness Project’s own Rachelle Fletcher was invited to join two other non-profit groups to minister to women in prison in San Saba Texas.

Joined by Jennifer Strickland of UR More and Prison Fellowship, Rachelle traveled to central Texas to bring the good news of Jesus to a neglected population.

Women in prison are often abused, and many come from extreme poverty in their communities.  83% of these women are mothers, and the number of women in prison in Texas has grown by over 1000% in the last 20 years.

Rachelle, Jennifer, and Prison Fellowship hosted a worship service for this group of women, and brought gifts to them, including a women’s devotional called “The Invitation” as well as makeup bags filled with Bioderma lotion, wipes, and micellar water.

Rachelle shared some personal thoughts about the event on social media:

“Their hearts were so tender – and their eyes lit up with hope! One woman said it was by far the best experience they’d had there – that they NEVER GET EVENTS LIKE THIS.

Think about that. Here in Texas, women can go to an event every single week if they want to. But we have over 1.2 million incarcerated women in the U.S.

These women are reaching for God! It is such a wonderful place to be!

Many people would be intimidated and scared of going into prison. What they are missing is these women are being pushed down by the system – degraded and held down. They need to be told they have value. They need to know they are worth more than their worst mistake, and they can start a new life. They need skills and exercise and sunshine and hand cream and Bibles. They need Jesus AND moisturizer!! It meant SO much to them that we brought BOTH!

They lifted their hands in worship singing, “How Great is Our God” in one resounding voice. It was one of the most beautiful sounds I’ve ever heard.

Jesus says when we go to “the least of these,” we come to Him. This is so true.

And we are extremely grateful for each one of you who made this possible with your generous giving and fervent prayers. Many accepted Christ and others were touched deeply by trading the lies they believed for the truth!”

The Goodness Project is so grateful to UR More and Prison Fellowship for allowing us to partner with them in this vital ministry, and thank you for supporting The Goodness Project so that we can take advantage of these opportunities!

We want to thank you for partnering with us to provide help and hope to families in crisis!
