December 2021 - The Goodness Report

Over the years, a lot of ink and printer toner has been spent writing annual Christmas devotionals concerned with the commercialization and secularization of Christmas.  We just need to scroll through our favorite streaming service and read the descriptions of the seemingly endless Christmas movies coming out each year.  What began centuries ago as a celebration of the birth of the Savior of the world has been largely replaced in pop media by fairly predictable stories of romantic love lost and found around the holiday season.  It is becoming increasingly difficult to find any mention of Jesus in western celebrations of Christmas.

We’ve Been Given Much to Celebrate!

For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace, There will be no end.

Isaiah 9:6-7

Ironically, our society needs more than ever to hear the Good News – the Gospel – of the greatest gift ever given in the history of the world. While Christmas themes of romantic love, family, forgiveness, renewal, and reunion are wonderful reflections of the holiday, they are just that – reflections.  They fall short of the ultimate source of our hope, our trust, our love!

The heart of the Christmas message is, in fact, a gift.  But this gift is different from any other gift ever given.  God, who spun the universe into existence, became human.  In what was the most unplanned, planned pregnancy of all time, God took on flesh and blood. Other false gods throughout history have been impersonal, aloof, manipulative, and cruel.  But the one true God, out of an incomprehensible love for His creation, was conceived and born as one of us.  Fully God, fully man.

The Divine came to earth as a baby to save His people from their sins.

Jesus lived a sinless life, died an unspeakably cruel death in our place, rose from the dead in victory three days later, and ascended to the Father to intercede for us.

While our culture attempts to water down Christmas to simple acts of human kindness and adoration, the genuine purpose and meaning of Christmas cannot be overlooked.

He is the most Wonderful of wonderfuls.  He is the greatest counselor of counselors.  He is the mightiest of all.  He is the truest Father in the universe.  And He is the only source of true, everlasting Peace.  And the government IS on His shoulders.

It is God’s nature to give. And there is no greater gift than true life in Christ.

The Goodness Project is just a simple reflection of the nature of God. When we minister to families in need, we represent the nature of the Prince of Peace.  We give because Christ gave for us. We love because God loves us.

As I spend time in prayer and reflection this Christmas season, I am once again amazed by the overwhelming love of God as shown through the birth of the Baby in the manger.  I hope you and your family not only experience the gift of Christ this season but have the opportunity to share Him with others.  Our world desperately needs Jesus, and He has graciously given us His message to share.

Along with the entire team at The Goodness Project, we pray you have a blessed Christmas holiday with family and friends.  Thank you for your faithful and consistent support of The Goodness Project as we extend the gift of Christ to those around us.

In His Goodness,

Bill & Rachelle Fletcher

The power of spiritual intelligence with Deana Morgan

The power of spiritual intelligence

Are you struggling to discern the leading of God as you walk out your purpose?

In this episode of Goodness Speaks, Rachelle talks with author and speaker Deana Morgan about spiritual intelligence, which helps us understand our mind and soul.

It can also help us discern the movement of God both in ourselves and others, so we can act lovingly out of that awareness. When we are able to discern what is going on inside of us, we can also discern the workings of God in a deeper way.
